ABSTRACT:
Diabetes mellitus is a long-term metabolic disease frequently linked to consequences such as peripheral neuropathy, lower limb pain, poor circulation, delayed wound healing, and a decreased quality of life. Complementary therapies are being investigated more and more to effectively control these issues. The traditional therapeutic technique known as "Calotropis brick heat fomentation," which combines the medicinal qualities of Calotropis gigantea with targeted heat application, has drawn interest due to its possible analgesic and circulatory advantages. The evidence for the therapeutic use of Calotropis brick heat fomentation in the treatment of lower limb discomfort and circulatory impairment in diabetes patients is thoroughly synthesized in this review. Studies on Calotropis, thermotherapy, peripheral circulation, diabetic neuropathy, and pain treatment were found through an organized review of literature from PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and other scientific databases. According to the research, Calotropis has anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antioxidant, antibacterial, and vasodilatory qualities that may lessen discomfort and enhance tissue perfusion. In afflicted lower limbs, heat fomentation further improves oxygen supply, blood circulation, muscular relaxation, and metabolic activity. In diabetics, especially older patients with chronic vascular insufficiency, the combination therapeutic impact of Calotropis plus heat treatment appears to be helpful in lowering lower limb discomfort, improving peripheral circulation, and increasing comfort. Nevertheless, there is still a dearth of direct clinical evidence about Calotropis brick heat fomentation, and the majority of the studies that are currently accessible are based on alternative therapy research, experimental results, and traditional medicine practices. This review emphasizes the need for well-designed clinical trials to establish standardized protocols, evaluate safety, and strengthen scientific evidence regarding the effectiveness of Calotropis brick heat fomentation in diabetic care. The findings support the integration of traditional therapeutic approaches as complementary interventions for improving lower limb health and quality of life among diabetic patients.
